Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been a long-term admirer of John McGinn.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic are planning to make a move again for Hibernian’s John McGinn, but only when the English transfer window has closed.

Hibs want £4 million for the midfielder, but Celtic feel that the asking price may be reduced when English clubs are unable to sign him.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ plan to bring in the midfielder may be thwarted by Aston Villa.

The Scottish Sun claims that Villa have entered discussions for the 23-year-old, which puts Celtic in an awkward position.

The Bhoys now be faced to pay the high asking price for McGinn, if they want him.

Rodgers has had an eye on McGinn all summer, but even competing with a Championship side in Villa could be a test for Celtic financially.

Villa have just had a takeover, and now have some considerable wealth behind them, which means Celtic’s plan to get the midfielder could really be scuppered.
