Gary Gardner joined Birmingham City on loan from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Gary Gardner has been at Aston Villa since 2005, but the midfielder has made only a handful of appearances for the first team.
The 26-year-old central midfielder is under contract at Villa until the summer of 2020, according to Transfermarkt.com, but he has been out on loan at various clubs in recent years, including Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley.
Gardner is on loan at Birmingham City at the moment, and the midfielder has established himself as an important player in manager Garry Monk’s team.
According to The Birmingham Mail, Birmingham would be willing to explore a permanent deal for Gardner should the EFL allow them to do so.
If Gardner has the chance to join the Blues on a permanent contract, then he should take it.
While Villa may have a new manager in Dean Smith, the central midfielder seems to have found a ‘home’ at Birmingham and is playing regularly.

Moving back to Villa Park next summer would mean that Gardner would have to start from starch and will have his work cut out in terms of establishing himself in the Villa team.
Staying at Birmingham would allow Gardner to progress as he is doing right now.
