Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has explained his frustrations with Aston Villa over a recent decision.

Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa had an outstanding season in the Premier League with the Midlands club finishing in a UEFA Champions League place.

The Midlands club played fast-paced, dynamic and attacking football beating the likes of Arsenal home and way and Manchester City at Villa Park.

Villa are preparing for life in Europe’s elite competition this summer but Emiliano Martinez, who has been such a stalwart for the Villains over the years, has opened up about his frustrations with the club.

Martinez’s frustration

The Villa goalkeeper has repeatedly spoke of his desire to feature for Argentina’s squad for the Olympics games this summer but with the tournament sandwiched in between the Copa America and the beginning of the Premier League season, it looks to be a tough ask for him to feature.

Martinez, 31, is currently with the national team, preparing for the Copa América, and had a chat with TyC Sports, where he again talked about his desire to make it to the Olympics.

“It is a wish that I want to play in the Olympic Games, but it doesn’t just depend on me. The club has blocked me many times,” he said.

“I decided to play the Copa América and then make a decision. With the club, who didn’t let any national team player go, it is not 100% given.

“I always put the Argentine national team first and if I have to fight with the club, I will. The most important thing is the Copa América, then the Olympic Games. My dream is to wear the gold medal.”

City player set to be given permission

Despite the Argentine wanting to feature in the Olympics for his country, the logistics of that decision makes it a tough sell.

The games take place between the 26th of July and the 11th of August, which is a week before the beginning of the Premier League season, Martinez isn’t the only Argentine in the Premier League who is desperate to go.

HITC understands that City forward Julian Alvarez will be allowed to go to the Olympics after a personal plea to manager Pep Guardiola.
