Diego Carlos has reacted to Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison giving the Aston Villa defender his match-worn shirt after their Premier League showdown on Saturday.

The Aston Villa centre-back was an unused substitute as he continues to recover from his long-term injury, whilst Richarlison played an hour in his side’s 2-1 defeat, before being subbed for Dejan Kulusevski – Tim Sherwood was critical of Tottenham’s club-record signing.

But, after the weekend fixture, Diego Carlos shared on his Instagram story an image of his son wearing Richarlison’s shirt with the caption ‘Thanks for the shirt, bro’, added with ‘My son, Amoo!!!’

Both of the players have repped Brazil on the international stage, with Richarlison playing at the most recent World Cup and Carlos donning the colours of his country at the Olympics.

But Villa’s summer signing, who made a return to action last week against Wolves, has been out injured since August and is slowly making his way back up.

At the time, It didn’t help matters for the Midlands side because Carlos was a big-money signing and he was supposed to enhance a defence that had declined during the previous campaign, but he hasn’t had the issues Richarlison is currently suffering from given his struggles since joining from Everton.

VILLA AND TOTTENHAM TO BATTLE IT OUT FOR FINAL EUROPEAN SPOT

Following Brighton’s 3-0 win at Arsenal on Sunday, they have probably put themselves well in the driving seat to finish in the top six.

It means that, both Villa and Spurs, who are one point behind Roberto De Zerbi’s men having played two games extra, will fight it out for that final European spot.

Tottenham have Brentford and a trip to Leeds for their final two games, whilst Villa take on Liverpool at Anfield and then welcome free-scoring Brighton on the last day of the season.
