Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United will face Aston Villa in the Championship with their Premier League dreams slipping away.
Dean Smith has predicted that Leeds United will go ‘hell for leather’ in their penultimate game of the Championship season at Villa Park on Sunday, speaking to the club’s official website.
With just two matches to go, Leeds’ hopes of sealing automatic promotion are hanging by a thread after a disastrous Easter Weekend which resulted in heartbreaking defeats to Brentford and a 10-man Wigan Athletic.
As such, the chances of Marcelo Bielsa’s side getting back to winning ways away to Aston Villa look slim on form alone. Smith’s high-flying side beat Millwall on Monday, breaking a club record with their 10th successive league win.
And the former Brentford boss accepts his Aston Villa side will come up against a determined Leeds side with a point to prove as a return to the Premier League threatens to slip away.
“It will be a very tactical game. I have played against them a couple of times already this season,” the 47-year-old said.
“They are going for an automatic position at the moment. They will go hell for leather. But we have to also because we want to continue this run we’re on.
“It’s going to be a tough game. But we will have a couple of days off now and then start building for that one.”
Leeds are three points behind Chris Wilder’s in-form Sheffield United side and need a minor miracle if they are to force their way back into the top two before it is too late.
The likelihood is that The Whites will have to navigate the play-offs, alongside a Villa side with plenty of momentum.
