Aston Villa ace Conor Hourihane sat down for an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, and admitted that last season’s play-off disappointment is still having an adverse effect on Steve Bruce’s side.

The Villans have made a slow start to their Championship campaign, having taken just 10 points from their opening seven league outings, and they currently sit in 12th spot in the table.

Bruce’s men were so close to winning promotion back to the Premier League last term, before they eventually lost to Fulham in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Hourihane sat down for an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, and shared how he believes last season’s play-off final disappointment is still weighing heavily on the Villa players’ minds:

“The play-off final was hugely disappointing. It might take a bit of time to get going after that. A lot of the players are still here. It’s not easy. We have seen teams in the past who have lost play-off finals and start slowly. We have not started as quickly as we would have wanted but we have not been as slow as some. It’s about finding the right balance.”

Next up for Aston Villa is a home game against Rotherham United in the Championship tonight, and Bruce’s men will be desperate to get their season back on track with a victory.
