Aston Villa defender Bjorn Engels has told his side’s official website that his family will be facing divided loyalties at the weekend.

Engels’ Villa side are set to take on Liverpool tomorrow, with the Belgian defender highly likely to start in his side’s defence.

The centre-back is coupled up with a Liverpool fan though, and her whole family supports the Reds.

And Engels has jokingly suggested that they may well be okay with Villa beating their beloved side.

“My girlfriend is from Liverpool – her whole family is. And they are all Reds, too,” Engels laughed.

“We have been joking about things in the build-up. This is normal.

“I think Aston Villa is the only team who can beat Liverpool and they won’t be too upset!

“If we win, I think there will be no problem. They love Liverpool. Of course, when you are born with a team, that is who you support. But I think they will be happy for me if we get a good result.”

Engels is set to face a tough test if he does start for Villa tomorrow.

Liverpool’s attacking quality has been too hot to handle for almost every side that they have faced this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in all competition domestically this term, with the Reds leading the way in the Premier League.

Villa, meanwhile, are currently in 15th place in the Premier League table, after collecting 11 points from their first 10 games back in the top flight.
