Aston Villa new-boy Anwar El Ghazi spoke exclusively to the Express & Star following his season-long loan switch to Villa Park, and opened up on how he is hoping to follow in the footstep of Arsenal and holland legend Dennis Bergkamp.

The 23-year-old winger idolised the former Gunners star as a child, and worked under him during his time at Ajax.

El Ghazi spoke exclusively to the Express & Star about how he looks up to Bergkamp, sharing his gratitude for the time he spent working with the Dutch legend:

“Before training, when we were warming-up and having some fun, we would always try to nutmeg each other when the other person wasn’t concentrating fully. The honest answer is though, he beat me. Dennis was very important in the development of all the young players who were coming through at Ajax and I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with him. He is a Dutch footballing icon and someone all young players look up to. He had a great career at both club and international level and I know he was very successful in England when he played for Arsenal.”

The Lille-owned winger made a great start to life in England with Villa at the weekend, chalking up an assist for his new club, and he showed glimpses of his undeniable talent that will surely excite the Aston Villa fans this season.

Steve Bruce’s Villa side are being heavily tipped for promotion this season, and if they are to go on and finish inside the top two, they could really do with their new signing emulating his childhood hero from here until the end of the season.
