Albert Adomah scored a superb brace for Aston Villa against QPR on Saturday.
The 29-year-old scored twice for Steve Bruce’s Midlands giants on Saturday afternoon to beat QPR at Loftus Road, after going behind early on to a Jamie Mackie strike.
However, Villa rallied, and Ghana international Adomah equalised from the penalty spot after a handball in the home side’s penalty area. Adomah then struck again on the hour mark, firing a left-footed effort in off the post past Alex Smithies.
The former Middlesbrough ace, who is widely known as a boyhood QPR fan, was asked why he was never signed by Villa’s rivals despite playing his football as a teenager “next door” to the club’s headquarters.
“Ask the scouts. I’m a local boy and played on the Astroturf pitch next door,” Adomah said, when asked why QPR overlooked him. “I’m a QPR fan. That’s why I didn’t really want to jump for joy when I scored, but I celebrated with our supporters at the end.
“QPR are a very strong team – obviously I know that because I follow them. So this was a great win. The majority of my friends, especially the local ones, support QPR, so I think I’ll get a lot of stick.”
Adomah’s celebrations were fairly muted, showing no signs of celebration after tucking the penalty into the top corner before showing a little more joy when sliding home the second in front of Villa’s away support.
It takes his total to an impressive eight goals for the season in 15 outings, sitting well out in front in Aston Villa’s goalscoring charts with Conor Hourihane in second on just five strikes.
Villa fans can rest easy over their winger’s future with three years still to run on his current contract, but they will be hoping Adomah can continue his excellent form as Bruce’s side play host to Sunderland on Tuesday night.
