You can always rely on Besiktas to rescue Premier League players in need of a fresh start.
Wout Weghorst joined after Burnley’s relegation in May, following in the footsteps of Rachid Ghezzal, Georges-Kevin N’koudou, Jeremain Lens and Lorus Karius.
Dele Alli, it seems, will be the next to take that well-worn path from the England to Istanbul. The Everton benchwarmer has reportedly agreed a £35,000-a-week contract at the 2021 Turkish Super Lig champions, joining on loan with an option-to-buy.
And don’t rule out Morgan Sanson following Alli at Vodafone Park. Aston Villa’s £15 million forgotten man has played even less football than the former England international this term, left out of Steven Gerrard’s matchday squad for the first two games of the new Premier League season.
And it’s not as if Sanson isn’t ‘100 per cent fit’ either. The 28-year-old took to social media, after being omitted from the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, to point that out.
Will Aston Villa’s Morgan Sanson join Dele Alli at Besiktas?
According to Takvim, Sanson is now in talks to join the Besiktas’ home for rescued footballers. He’s already been in discussions with coach Valerien Ismael, a breakthrough potentially just days away.
The downside to such a policy, however, is that it risks blocking the pathway for exciting, homegrown Turkish talent. Take Kartal Yilmaz, for instance.
At just 21, Kartal already looks like one of the bright young hopes of Turkish football, starting Besiktas’ opening game of the season. According to Fotomac, Rangers have already shown an interest, after signing his former team-mate and namesake Ridvan Yilmaz.
The problem, for Kartal, is that many of the attributes that have marked him out as one to watch are also shared by Sanson; Another buzzing, ball-playing central midfielder who loves to make things happen, driving his team forward with little bursts of energy.
Of course, Sanson arriving does not necessarily mean Kartal is not part of Besiktas’ plans. But it does threaten to impede his development, while making a potential move to Rangers that little bit more tempting.
