Yannick Bolasie has criticised Aston Villa as ‘boring’ after their 1-1 draw with struggling Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

Villa headed to the City Ground knowing that this was a huge game.

Steven Gerrard’s men were looking to get their season kickstarted and a game against a disjointed Forest side seemed like a great chance to get going.

However, Villa fell behind to an Emmanuel Dennis goal before Ashley Young sent a thunderbolt past Dean Henderson for 1-1.

Neither side were able to claim the win in the second half though and boss Gerrard is under huge pressure.

Yannick Bolasie has criticised Aston Villa

Gerrard was supposed to take Villa forward when he moved from Rangers last November, but you could argue that they’re going backwards.

Take Gerrard’s name value out of the equation and this simply isn’t good enough, it just feels like he’s being given more leeway by some because of his reputation.

Villa look slow, ponderous and uninventive in the final third, leading to these poor results this season.

Two wins from nine games this season just isn’t good enough and former Villa winger Bolasie has now offered his view.

Bolasie, who played for Villa during the 2018-19 season, now plays in Turkey with Caykur Rizespor.

The 33-year-old hasn’t forgotten about Villa though and took to Twitter having watched Monday’s 1-1 draw with Forest.

Bolasie suggested that utilising a slow build up ‘will never help Villa’, calling for them to use more pace and energy in the final third.

Bolasie added that Villa have now become ‘boring to watch’ which hurts the winger given how many talented players are at Gerrard’s disposal.

Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Emi Buendia, Philippe Coutinho and Leon Bailey are all in the mix for Villa, so for them to be so pedestrian going forward really stings fans and even former players like Bolasie.
