The Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur players are currently on loan at Aston Villa.

In recent comments published by the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce admitted that he wanted to sign loanee Josh Onomah from Tottenham Hotspur in a permanent deal if he got the chance, while it is no secret the Villans want to buy Sam Johnstone after his ongoing temporary stint from Manchester United.

But surely Villa will need to secure promotion back to the Premier League this season to get either deal over the line.

As much as Johnstone owes Villa for taking a chance on him, his impressive performances mean there will be plenty of top flight clubs interested if he does complete a permanent exit from Old Trafford next summer.

Similarly, while Tottenham Hotspur will always be reluctant to part company with Onomah so soon into his career, the youngster is only likely to leave Spurs for another top flight club given his innate talent and huge potential.

Villa certainly have the players at their disposal to return to the Premier League at the second time of asking, and they may well have to if they are to sign two young English players with the potential to become big stars in the years ahead.

It will be difficult to get the deals over the line anyway, with the United stopper far more likely to eave than the Tottenham prospect. However if Villa want the best possible chance, they need to ensure they are celebrating come May.
