Aston Villa will have to make Matteo Guendouzi their most expensive signing of all time, according to a report.

Unai Emery is being linked with a move to sign the France international, whom he managed at Arsenal.

Guendouzi has since left the Gunners to join Marseille but, at 23, he seems destined for bigger things than Ligue 1 right now.

According to Foot Mercato, as covered by HITC Sport, Aston Villa are keen and ready to bid £27 million to sign him.

However, a new report suggests that the Villans will have to cough up substantially more.

According to 90 Min this evening, the French outfit want at least £44 million for their frizzy-haired midfielder.

That being said, the report has added that Guendouzi is content with life back in France.

And therefore, this could be a difficult transfer for Aston Villa to pull off.

Even if they’re willing to part with £44 million, eclipsing the £34 million that Emi Buendia cost a couple of years ago, Guendouzi still has to give his consent.

In terms of investment, though, it makes sense.

A couple more years impressing in the Premier League and Aston Villa can probably demand a lot more than what they may have to pay.

In this market, a 26-year-old who is proven in English football will be worth a bomb and it’ll be fascinating to see what happens.
