Aston Villa’s transfer plans for the summer will now lead them to Turkey with Steven Gerrard’s men allegedly keen on signing Galatasaray ace Victor Nelsson.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik report that Villa intend to scout defender Nelsson on Sunday as they look to identify summer targets.

Galatasaray take on bitter rivals Fenerbahce and seeing Nelsson in action in such a high-pressure game may help Villa decide whether to make a move.

Nelsson, 23, only joined Galatasaray last summer as he completed a €7million (£6million) move from Copenhagen to Turkey.

The two-cap Denmark international has been impressing for Galatasaray and could now earn them a quick profit.

Villa are understood to be keen and this seems like a move that Johan Lange will be influencing heavily.

Lange, a fellow Dane, worked as Copenhagen’s technical director when they signed Nelsson from Norsdjaelland back in 2019.

What’s interesting is that Ekstra Bladet in Denmark reported in 2020 that Villa had launched a bid to sign Nelsson from Copenhagen.

No deal materialised then but it seems that Lange is a big fan of Nelsson and the Villa sporting director wants to lure him to Villa Park.

Ezri Kosna and Tyrone Mings have been Steven Gerrard’s first-choice pairing in the Villa back line under Steven Gerrard.

Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause are also available for selection, but Gerrard may yet want another central defensive option for next season and beyond.

Nelsson would be one option, and he has a €25million (£21million) release clause in his Galatasaray contract.

Whether Villa would want to pay that release clause remains to be seen, but Lange will have his eyes on Nelsson on Sunday.

A positive performance may just lead to Villa launching a bid for Nelsson this summer in an attempt to reunite Lange with his former defensive signing.
