Jack Grealish, who was attacked early on during the game by a pitch-invading Blues fan, went on to score the winner in the 67th minute, weaving into the opposition box and slotting into the corner of the net.
At the back, defender Tyrone Mings put in yet another strong display which prompted more calls for Villa to sign the Bournemouth loanee permanently, with the Birmingham Mail giving him a 7.5 out of 10.
Even the EFL Championship’s official Twitter account lauded the 25-year-old’s display in a post after full time, but the following day, the EFL’s Team of the Week did not include him in the XI:
There’s always going to be debate in terms of such weekly picks, especially when they have to take 72 clubs into account, but some Villa fans on Twitter really were baffled with regards to Mings’s omission:
Mings has made seven appearances for Villa this season, scoring once, while he has made a further seven appearances for Bournemouth in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, according to Transfermarkt.
