The Villans ace impressed in his return to action in Saturday’s Championship thrashing of Derby County.

Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish made his return to the first team in some style last Saturday.

Prior to last weekend’s Championship encounter with Derby County, the 23-year-old had not played since December 7, the 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The Villans won just two of 13 games without Grealish in their ranks, an ongoing shin issue having kept him on the sidelines, but his return instantly yielded some magic.

With Dean Smith’s side already three goals to the good heading into first-half injury time, Glenn Whelan whipped a corner to the edge of the penalty area.

The delivery found the Villa academy graduate, who cleanly struck a right-footed volley into the far top corner of the net, sending the Villa Park crowd into a frenzy en route to a 4-0 win.

With Grealish having enjoyed such a good individual and team performance, one would have expected him to feature in the EFL Team of the Week – not so:

Needless to say, some Villa faithful were not impressed and they made their feelings known on Twitter:

Villa will be hoping for more Grealish magic in the next week and a half, with Sunday’s Second City derby with Birmingham City followed up by a midweek trip to Nottingham Forest and a home game with Middlesbrough next Saturday.
