Aston Villa will reportedly shoot down any offers in the summer that come their way for Emi Martinez, with the goalkeeper tipped to leave Villa Park amid interest from the likes of Tottenham.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League side are desperate to keep hold of their superstar goalkeeper following on from an incredible season for the Argentine that saw Martinez win the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the South American giants as their starter between the sticks.

With a contract until 2027, Villa are in an incredibly strong position when it comes to Martinez plotting to leave Unai Emery’s side for a bigger club, with Dean Jones reporting that the former Arsenal player is wanted by Tottenham as a replacement for Hugo Lloris in the summer.

Signed from the Gunners in 2020 for a reported £20m, Martinez has firmly asserted himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and a key player for both Villa and Argentina, and this latest stance from the Birmingham-based club shows that the 30-year-old isn’t leaving anytime soon.

Indeed, whilst interest from Tottenham could be enticing, Martinez is unlikely to leave Villa for a club that he might personally not want to join given his decade-spell at Arsenal. However, that’s not to say that another team won’t come in with a mega offer for the Argentine.

Martinez has proved with Villa and Argentina that he is more than capable of playing at the highest-level, and whilst it would take quite the financial effort, a big offer from a UEFA Champions League team could be what pushes the shot-stopper out the exit door at Villa Park.

As we know, Emery is unlikely to guide Villa to a European finish this season, and with Martinez in the peak of his career, the Premier League star could be itching to play in the Champions League having already dominated the World Cup with Argentina, with an offer potentially on the cards from an unnamed club.
