Aston Villa have approached Manchester United to hold talks for a possible transfer
of Jadon Sancho this summer, who has recently been offered to Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to Rudy Galetti, who reports that Aston Villa are now looking to improve Unai Emery’s attack. The Birmingham outfit believe they are well equipped in defence and midfield after completing swoops for Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans during recent weeks.

Emery is eager to add to the centre-half and midfielder’s arrivals by snapping up forwards for both wings. The Villa Park coach hopes to strengthen on each side of the field and has instructed new president of football operations, Monchi, to explore a transfer for Sancho.

Aston Villa have approached Manchester United to discuss a transfer

Sancho produced a mixed campaign at Old Trafford last season after showing his talents in flashes. The 23-year-old finished the term with seven goals and three assists in 41 games in all competitions. He penned six of his goals and each assist over 26 Premier League games.

Aston Villa have now sought to sound out the conditions Manchester United would request for Sancho’s transfer. The Villans started talks with the Red Devils in recent weeks to open a line of communication. But the Old Trafford outfit’s asking price is proving to be a problem.

Ten Hag wants Sancho sold amid the winger being offered to Tottenham

Aston Villa believe Sancho is not worth what Manchester United are wanting for a transfer just two years after joining. The Red Devils paid Borussia Dortmund £73m for the winger in July 2021. He also agreed to a five-year contract worth £350k-a-week to secure the move.

Reports by the Daily Mail in June noted Manchester United are open to offers for Sancho’s transfer worth around £45m. It would mark a club-record move for Aston Villa were Emery to match the request. Emi Buendia’s £38m move from Norwich City is their current record.

What could help Aston Villa drive down Manchester United’s asking price is that reports by the Independent earlier in July claimed that Erik ten Hag is intent on selling Sancho. It also noted that Tottenham were yet to respond to an offer to sign the England star this summer.

Ten Hag wants Sancho out of Old Trafford to part-fund his rebuild, despite the Dutch coach calling the forward ‘brilliant’ in February. He also suggested that Sancho can produce some ‘outstandingly’ strong performances. Yet those might come in claret-and-blue next season.
