Jeff Stelling has named dropped Aston Villa’s transfer links with Marco Asensio, Giovani Lo Celso and Nico Williams on Sky Sports.

The Sky presenter stated that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have been linked with some ‘interesting’ names ahead of the summer transfer window opening, as he told Sky Sports News (20/05/23 at 2:15 pm).

Real Madrid star Marco Asensio is out-of-contract, whilst Giovani Lo Celso, who is a Tottenham player, worked with Emery at Villarreal, whilst Nico Williams is a rising star at Athletic Bilbao.

There is now every possibility that Villa will be playing European football next season. They just have to win their final home game of the season or match Tottenham’s final-day result.

The Midlands side will welcome Robert De Zerbi’s Brighton next Sunday, with Spurs making the trip to Yorkshire to lock horns with relegation-threatened Leeds United.

Getting that European spot and signing that extra level of quality of player will become easier, with Stelling briefly mentioning three.

“They have been linked with some interesting players,” said Stelling. “Marco Asensio is one of those. Gio Lo Celso and Nico Williams, who is at Bilbao, at the moment. They have all been linked with Aston Villa.”

ASENSIO, WILLIAMS AND LO CELSO WOULD BE TOP PURCHASES FOR VILLA

If Villa can somehow get these deals over the line, especially Asensio and Williams, then it would seriously boost the quality of their squad.

Their only issue is that Williams would be very difficult to prize away from Bilbao given the 20-year-old and his brother’s connection with the club – although, they are at risk of missing out on Europe themselves.

Whilst Asensio would surely want to stay at Real Madrid, even if he isn’t getting the regular starts that he wants, if they put the contract on the table, then there is no way he leaves, but if he is open to making that switch to the Premier League, then money talks.

Lo Celso is a lot easier to get done because he is out of favour at Spurs and he worked with Emery at Villarreal.
