Striker search
Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed to BBC Sport that he wants to sign at least one attacker for Aston Villa.
Villa are on the hunt for a striker, and Di Matteo has suggested that he could look to do further business to bring attacking players to the club before the close of the transfer window.
“We’re certainly looking for a striker,” he said. “And maybe some more attacking players, depending on how the next few weeks go and which players are going to leave.”
Departures imminent
In the same interview with the BBC, Di Matteo has also confirmed that Villa are looking to offload some of their fringe players.
“You could probably name 15 players that have been linked with us but I’m very pleased with the players we’ve brought in – I think we’ve done some good business there,” he added.
“But my attention will now focus on outgoings. I would like to trim the squad – it’s too big for my liking, so there will be some movement now.”
Clark latest
One of the players who could be set to leave Villa is defender Ciaran Clark, who is attracting interest from West Bromwich Albion.
According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, the Baggies are ready to bid £4.5 million to sign Clark from their Midlands rivals.
Shock move
Villa have been linked with a shock move for Ivica Olic by German newspaper Bild.
Olic is now 36-years-old, but he is without a club and Di Matteo reportedly sees the veteran hitman as a player who could enhance his attacking options.
And finally…
Ghana Soccer Web say that Hamburg have submitted an £8 million offer for Villa forward Jordan Ayew.
Villa chairman Tony Xia has stated recently that Ayew will stay at Villa Park, but the German side are reportedly hopeful of completing a deal.
