Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has revealed on social networking site Twitter that the club hope to compete the signing of world-class striker next week.

Xia has stated that Villa are working very hard to get a deal done for a number nine.

The Chinese businessman has also revealed that the Championship club are close to the signing of a new full-back.

According to Le Progres, Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is set to undergo a medical at Saint-Etienne at the start of next week (click here to read more).

Veretout has struggled to play well for the Villans since his move to the English club in the summer of 2015.

According to Haberler, Turkish giants Besiktas are interested in signing Rudy Gestede from Villa before the end of the summer transfer window (click here to read more).

However, according to the report, the 27-year-old former Blackburn Rovers striker is happy at Villa Park, and that a move to Besiktas might not be likely. The Benin international joined Villa from Blackburn in the summer of 2015.
