Montpellier are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson just days after the midfielder scored his first-ever goal for the Premier League side in their 2-1 loss to Stevenage.
According to Jeunes Footeux, the Ligue 1 side are keen to sign a midfielder this month having recently loaned out youngster Sacha Delaye to third-tier French side Puy Foot 43, with Sanson now on Montpellier’s radar with the 28-year-old keen on leaving Villa this month as reported by L’Equipe.
The 28-year-old signed for Villa back in 2021 but has spent the majority of his career at the club spent on the injury table, with Sanson only making just 22 appearances across three seasons for the Villa Park side, hence why the midfielder could now be set to return to France.
With Unai Emery set to overhaul the squad this summer, Montpellier’s interest in signing Sanson this month has come at a perfect time for Villa, with the French side seemingly keen on bringing back their former star six years after the midfielder left for Olympique Marseille.

Indeed, Sanson is a player who has shown sparks of quality during his three seasons with Villa. However, injuries have meant the midfielder has never had a consistent enough run of matches to truly get off the ground in England. And as a result, returning to France could be for the best.
Moreover, Sanson leaving to re-sign with Montpellier could give Emery and the Villa board the perfect chance to add more quality to the squad, with the Villians eager to make some signings this month in an attempt to claim a top-half finish in the Premier League.
Montpellier signing Sanson would suit all parties perfectly

Sanson’s time in England has been nothing short of a disaster, with the midfielder never having a true chance to showcase his talents with injury after injury knocking the playmaker down at every turn. And this is why a return to France with Montpellier would be so ideal for the Villa star.
After all, at 28, Sanson is now at the peak of his career, and playing in his home country for a club who knows him well would be the perfect remedy for the midfielder to get back to his best form, especially with Euro 2024 just 18 months away.
