Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are interested in signing Harry Maguire from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT reporter Anil Kandola on Twitter.

The journalist has claimed that Villa are on the verge of signing the England international central defender from Premier League rivals United, although other sources have played it down, as you can see below.

The £200,000-a-week (SalarySport) star was reportedly spotted with his agent near the Villa training ground this weekend.

Kandola wrote: “Aston Villa are on the verge of signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

“The 29-year-old is out of favour at #MUFC and Villa want the English international.”

Should Harry Maguire leave Manchester United for Aston Villa?

In our view, it would not be a bad idea for Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United for Aston Villa in the January transfer window, ideally on a loan deal.

The 29-year-old centre-back has not had the best of times at United since his move from Leicester City in 2019.

Current United manager Erik ten Hag is not playing him much, and we do not think that there is any point in the England international staying at Old Trafford if he is not needed.

If Villa are keen on Maguire and if he gets the chance to join Emery’s side on loan for the rest of the season, then he should take it.

Maguire has made four starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League and has made one start and three substitute appearances in the UEFA Europa League for the Red Devils so far this season.
