Gerard Deulofeu has praised Aston Villa transfer target Marco Asensio as he bids farewell to Real Madrid ahead of the final round of fixtures for the 22/23 La Liga season on Sunday.

The Spanish winger is set to leave Real Madrid when his contract expires in June, with many clubs, including Aston Villa, showcasing their interest in the player.

When Marco Asensio thanked Madrid fans on Instagram for their support in recent years, Gerard Deulofeu told him in the comments section ‘you are a player’.

Whilst the Villa Park faithful were very hopeful that Asensio would land on their doorstep, it seems as though they might have to look elsewhere now.

Despite a tempting offer from the Midlands giants, Ligue 1 champions PSG are set to secure his signature on a free transfer, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

That’s an early transfer blow for Villa and Unai Emery, who will now need to look elsewhere for forward options, as they prepare for a return to Europe next season.

WHAT NEXT FOR VILLA IN THE TRANSFER MARKET?

Well, it’s pretty clear that Emery is looking for wide options to bolster his forward line and try to take the club to the next level next season.

Whether it’s highly-rated youngster and Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, or someone higher up the food chain.

The more Villa knock on the bigger doors, yes those rejections will hit them now and again, but just like Boubacar Kamara last summer, they can land those big-name signings.
