Unai Emery is now set to hold talks with Aston Villa sporting director Johan Lange to discuss Cameron Archer’s future. The striker thrived while on loan at Middlesbrough.
That is according to Birmingham Live, which reports that Emery and Lange will meet in the coming weeks. The Villa Park chiefs are eager to thrash out their plans for the next transfer window before the market opens. One move might be the permanent departure of Archer.
Aston Villa now face a decision on Archer’s future back in Birmingham after the 21-year-old flourished with Middlesbrough. Emery agreed to let the striker move to Teesside in January having seldom used the Villa product after replacing Steven Gerrard in charge in November.

Emery awarded Archer just one appearance lasting seven minutes from six possible games in all competitions. Yet the striker shone under Michael Carrick with 11 goals and six assists in 23 games. His efforts also helped Boro reach the Championship play-off semi-finals, too.
Archer registered each of his 17 goal involvements in 20 of Middlesbrough’s regular-season Championship fixtures. He also penned five goals in as many matches to end the campaign. While his brace and assist to beat Preston North End this March impressed Ben Whiteman.
The Lilywhites midfielder told Lancs Live after the game: “We’ve all seen how good Cammy Archer is and he was excellent again today.” While Preston knew all too well what he could deliver having scored seven and assisted a goal in 20 outings whilst on loan there last term.

Middlesbrough want to secure Archer’s permanent transfer
Gerrard had similarly sent Archer out on loan in January 2022 having struggled for minutes at Villa Park that term. Now, Emery and Lange must decide what future Archer has at Aston Villa after his sensational showing on loan with Middlesbrough, who want to secure a deal.
Reports by The Sun in April noted that Middlesbrough want to buy Archer following his run of goals on loan from Aston Villa. But the Riverside natives face an asking price in excess of £20m. While Archer faces an uncertain future at Villa Park owing to Jhon Duran’s presence.
