Aston Villa will reportedly be given the chance to sign Matteo Guendouzi this summer, with Olympique Marseille open to selling the former Arsenal midfielder.
According to Le10Sport, the French giants are warming to the idea of offloading the 23-year-old for the right fee, with Marseille currently valuing Guendouzi at just €25m (£22m), a price that could tempt Villa into action that would see Unai Emery reunite with the ex-Arsenal misfit.
Guendouzi has revived his career since returning to his home country last season, with the midfielder now a regular in the France national team and regarded by many as one of the best players currently on Marseille’s books, and his form has now caught Emery’s eye.
The Spanish manager was the one who signed Guendouzi for Arsenal in 2019 as the former FC Lorient star impressed in his first full season in England, though the midfielder didn’t work well with Mikel Arteta as the youngster was sold for cheap to Marseille.
Indeed, Guendouzi is the latest of a long line of players Arsenal have sold for peanuts despite their obvious quality and potential, and now, the Gunners could be made to pay if Villa make the move to sign the France international, a likely prospect if Emery’s intentions are to be believed.
Moreover, with Marseille open to selling the youngster for just £22m, if the report can be believed, then Villa could soon land one of the bargains of the summer, with Guendouzi growing into an exceptional midfielder since returning to France after two seasons of Ligue 1 football.
