Aston Villa fans could be about to see a change in the midfield department involving Morgan Sanson and Matteo Guendouzi.
What’s the story?
Well, Sanson – who Dean Smith brought to Villa Park in a £16m deal – is now close to joining Montpellier on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
That is according to L’Equipe in France.
The news emerged roughly the same time as the Evening Standard‘s claim that Unai Emery has sent a bid for Guendouzi to Marseille as he targets a reunion with the Frenchman, who he signed for Arsenal.
By the sounds of it, the Spaniard is planning for one in, one out as far as his midfield department is concerned.
The Evening Standard did not disclose the value of Aston Villa’s bid.

However, it is stated that the offer was sent as the request of Emery, who clearly admires the France international.
According to Foot Mercato, the 51-year-old has already held talks with the Marseille No.6 over a return to the Premier League, and while the 23-year-old is happy in France, he would welcome a reunion.
Sanson out, Guendouzi in would be good for Aston Villa
Sanson is clearly a talented footballer, but his lack of action this season means it would make sense for Aston Villa to swap him for someone Emery knows well.
The 28-year-old has played just one minute of Premier League action so far this season, and it would therefore be a wise move to offload him for Guendouzi, who is five years younger and also likely to play regularly.
Furthermore, Guendouzi played alongside Boubacar Kamara at Marseille, so Emery could have an instant midfield partnership on his hands if his bid ends up being successful.
Keep an eye on this situation, as we expect further developments across the next week.
