Aston Villa are close to loaning out 20-year-old goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo to League One side Burton Albion, with Steven Gerrard granting the youngster permission to sign for the EFL club.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the Finland youth international has been allowed to leave training ahead of a loan move to Burton, where the shot-stopper will sign a season-long loan deal with the Brewers with Villa heavily stacked in the goalkeeping position for next year.
As well as Emi Martinez, who continues to impress for Villa as their no. 1, Gerrard secured the signing of Swedish international Robin Olsen from AS Roma on a permanent deal, with the duo already out in Australia with the Villains’ first-team for pre-season.
With Jed Steer also on Villa’s books, the decision to loan out Sinisalo for the season has been a logical one for the Birmingham-based side, with Burton now close to signing the youngster for the year in what could be a very beneficial loan move for the goalkeeping prospect.
Sinisalo played for Scottish Championship side Ayr United last season with the Finnish youngster making 29 appearances for the Honest Men, with the keeper now winning a move to Burton in League One where the shot-stopper can make a real name for himself.
Last season saw Gavin Bazunu impress for League One side Portsmouth which prompted Southampton to sign the Manchester City talent for a reported £12m, and a similar outcome could happen to Sinisalo if he impresses for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side.
Sinisalo has made a good decision agreeing to sign for Burton

At this stage of a career, playing regular football is everything for a young player, and Sinisalo signing for Burton is a good move for the talented goalkeeper who could one day become a top play in one of Europe’s biggest divisions.
Indeed, League One is a great division to learn the highs and lows of being a goalkeeper, and Sinisalo playing for a club like Burton under a manager like Hasselbaink will be a great learning experience for the Villa talent, who could return to Villa Park next season as a contender for the no. 2 shirt.
