Aston Villa are set to send Andre Green on loan to Portsmouth.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa winger Andre Green is set to join League One side Portsmouth on loan until January, with a view to extending the deal until the end of the season.

Villa – who lost 1-0 to Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night – have backed manager Steve Bruce with two huge signings in the loan market, landing Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie.

The wingers have arrived on loan from Lille and Everton respectively, and give Bruce another boost out wide – but are terrible news for youngster Andre Green.

Green, 20, has come up through the Villa ranks and has shown plenty of potential in limited playing time, but now looks set to move on for increased playing time away from Villa Park.

The Birmingham Mail report that Green is all set for a loan move to League One side Portsmouth, with a deal until January potentially set to be confirmed later today.

Some had expected Green to go out on loan to another Championship club, but he is set for a surprise move to Fratton Park, where he will hope to impress manager Bruce.

Speaking after Tuesday’s defeat to Burton, Bruce did address the situation, and told the Birmingham Mail that he thinks a move to play games regularly will really benefit Green, with the move to be re-assessed in January.

“I’ve decided to let him go and get some games under his belt,” said Bruce. “After signing the recent (wingers) it will benefit him. I hope he goes and becomes a big success. We will then see how he is in January,” he added.
