Aston Villa play host to Leeds United in the Championship on Friday night.
Aston Villa assistant coach Stephen Clemence spoke to the club’s official website after their fine win over Cardiff City last night, and delivered news of a potentially damaging double blow ahead of his side’s clash with Leeds United on Friday night.
The Villans currently sit in fourth spot in the Championship table, five points adrift of second placed Fulham, and with only four games remaining, it seems as though they will finish the campaign in the play-off places.
Steve Bruce’s side will certainly not have given up hope of automatic promotion just yet, though, and will be targeting four wins from their remaining four games.
Next up for the west Midlands outfit is a home game Leeds United on Friday night, and despite the Whites’ poor run of form, a win against a Paul Heckingbottom managed side is never easy to achieve.
Clemence provided worrying news for Villa fans ahead of their clash with the Whites, suggesting that John Terry and Birkir Bjarnason could both be unavailable for Friday night’s game, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“His (Bjarnason) back stiffened up and he felt a twinge as he left the dressing room. It was a funny one really, he hadn’t actually done anything to provoke it. But he’s a tough character so it must have been bad for him to pull out just before kick-off. He (Terry) may have a chance of making Friday. He rolled his ankle against Norwich and that’s why he missed the game tonight. If he can play, he’ll definitely get himself out there. I know he was gutted to miss a big fixture under the lights here. He’ll be doing everything he can to be available.”
Having both Terry and Bjarnason unavailable for Friday’s clash would be a huge blow for Steve Bruce, and make Villa’s task of beating Paul Heckingbottom’s men that little bit harder.
