Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia celebrates scoring
Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that Jonathan Kodjia is set for a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken ankle. And while the news is a hugely devastating blow for the striker and the Villans, it may perhaps have a positive impact on Steve Bruce’s men’s promotion hopes next season.
The Championship side confirmed on their official website that the 27-year-old will miss pre-season and potentially the start of the next campaign due to the injury.
But perhaps the news does have a slightly positive side to it from the club’s perspective.
The Mirror reported last month (10th April print edition, pg 49) that Premier League pair Everton and Stoke City were interested in signing Kodjia following his stunning season in the second tier.
Kodjia has proved to be an excellent signing for Villa, leading the side’s goalscoring charts by a huge margin – his 19 goals leaves him 15 clear of his nearest teammate, Jack Grealish – so it is hardly a surprise that the top flight duo are interested in bagging his signature.

Unfortunately for both of those sides, that injury will surely make a transfer incredibly difficult and a major gamble considering that it appears, judging by Villa’s statement, that he may be facing a race against time to be back available before the window closes.
And while not having their star striker may well harm how successful Villa are during the opening weeks of the campaign, the fact that he is likely to be at the club beyond the window will surely have a positive impact on their promotion hopes in the long run, especially if he enjoys an excellent recovery and manages to rediscover the form he has shown this term.
