Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce was expecting Gabriel Agbonlahor to be back fit in time to take on Birmingham City.

According to a report in the Express and Star, Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor will miss out on playing against Birmingham City.

Agbonlahor has been out with a foot problem for several weeks, but Steve Bruce had suggested that the forward would be back in time to take on Birmingham.

However, the latest reports suggest that Agbonlahor has failed to win his race to be fit.

The 31-year-old is now set to watch from the stands, as Villa take on Birmingham at the weekend.

Agbonlahor has a brilliant record in the derby match between the two Midlands rivals, and his absence is a blow for Bruce’s side.

Villa, though, will still travel to St. Andrews with momentum on their side – after an impressive victory last weekend.

The claret and blues go into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Fulham. Birmingham, meanwhile, were beaten by Millwall in their last outing and will be looking to bounce back on Sunday.
