Aston Villa have found success where Leeds tried and failed.

Tammy Abraham will miss this weekend’s Aston Villa clash against Leeds United through injury.

With a play-off spot already secured, Abraham may have been rested anyway, and saved for a potential play-off clash against Leeds.

Abraham has been hugely successful at Villa this season, having joined on loan from Chelsea.

He has scored 25 goals, the second highest in the Championship behind Teemu Pukki (28).

It shows the value in trying to sign elite talent from top Premier League clubs, and was a shrewd deal by Aston Villa.

Leeds tried the same too, without success.

The Whites made a staggered triple swoop on Chelsea last summer, bringing in Jamal Blackman, Lewis Baker and Izzy Brown.

Lewis Baker and Mateusz Klich stand dejected following the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Leeds United and Preston North End at Elland Road on August 28, 2018 in Leeds, England.

It could not possibly have panned out worse.

Blackman failed to dislodge Bailey Peacock-Farrell from the line-up, and then picked up a season ending injury before making his Championship debut for the Whites.

Baker could not establish himself in the Leeds team, making just two starts, before cancelling his loan and switching to Reading.

Izzy Brown has been an enigma. He arrived on loan with injury, but has been fit since December and is still waiting for his first start.

Abraham’s success showed Leeds’ strategy was a smart one, they just picked the wrong players and were dealt some poor luck.

The Villa star’s outstanding form only makes the lack of contribution from the trio more frustrating for Leeds.
