It’s been an eventful international break for many Premier League stars, partly thanks to the UEFA Nations League draw throwing up several intriguing ties.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold impressed Roy Keane against the Republic of Ireland, there was the small matter of Germany vs the Netherlands on Tuesday night.

However, that wasn’t the only tasty match between two massive rivals on Tuesday night, as Argentina also took on Colombia in Bogota. The South American rivalry is well-documented, as there have been several controversial flashpoints in matches between the two nations in recent years.

The latest instalment generated another memorable moment – although it’s probably one Aston Villa fans won’t want to see.

Emi Martinez lashes out after Argentina v Colombia clash

Following Argentina’s 2-1 defeat to Colombia in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Aston Villa’s famously antagonistic goalkeeper – Emi Martinez – was captured on camera looking understandably despondent.

The Aston Villa man seemingly didn’t take too kindly to the camera operator approaching him, which lead to this unedifying moment:

Posted to X by TyC Sports, the video shows Martinez hitting the camera in frustration after the defeat.

Several social media users noted the fact that the goalkeeper was booed and jeered by the home fans throughout the match.

In response, the operator who was holding the camera at the time of the incident has spoken out – detailing his side of the story.

Cameraperson speaks out after Martinez incident

The game itself saw Luis Diaz’s Colombia take another big step towards 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification.

While the Liverpool man bailed his side out of trouble against Peru last Friday, it was a former Everton star – James Rodriguez – who scored a match-winning penalty in the 60th-minute.

Martinez is set to face Everton next in the Premier League, as Aston Villa host the Toffees on Saturday evening (September 14).
