Aston Villa star says he wants to maintain his impressive recent form

Jonathan Kodjia can’t stop scoring at the moment.

Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia has told the club’s official website that he is determined to continue his excellent goalscoring form.

According to the BBC, Villa paid a second-tier record £15 million to sign the highly-rated centre-forward from Bristol City after a goal-laden debut season at Ashton Gate and, after a slow start under Roberto Di Matteo, Kodjia has exploded into life under successor Steve Bruce.

The Ivory Coast international has scored five times in his last seven fixtures, including a sensational volleyed winner against Fulham, to spearhead Villa’s rise from lower mid-table to the verge of the play-off positions under the former Hull City manager.

And Kodjia says he is desperate to maintain his impressive run.

“I am happy with my form,” the 27-year-old told Villa’s official website.

“My sensations on the pitch are good. I have scored six goals so far and I am happy with that. I want to keep scoring.

“I am smiling all the time.”

The former Angers forward scored 19 times in 42 Championship starts for Bristol City in 2015/16 and, while such a tally may be difficult to obtain at Villa, he has arguably been the most impressive of the club’s array of summer signings.

Notably, strike partner Ross McCormack, who netted prolifically for Fulham and Leeds, is yet to justify his hefty price tag at Villa Park, meaning Kodjia’s contribution has become even more crucial.
