Aston Villa are currently in the midst of a woeful run of form.
Aston Villa’s James Chester
Aston Villa centre-back James Chester sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and made the bold claim that every single member of Steve Bruce’s squad would get into any other Championship team.
The Villans currently sit in 17th position in the table, a full 22 points adrift of the promotion play-off spots, and just six points clear of 22nd placed Wigan Athletic, which makes Chester’s remarks all the more baffling.
The Midlands outfit head to the North East tomorrow to take on in-form Newcastle United, and with Rafa Benitez’ men looking to go back to the top of the table, Chester and co will surely be in for a difficult evening.
But Chester, who moved to Villa Park from West Bromwich Albion in the summer, raved about the ability of his teammates, and was in confident mood ahead of his side’s trip to St James’ Park tomorrow, when speaking to AVFC.co.uk:
“We’ve changed it and it does take a settling in period, individually every member of our squad would get in to pretty much any team in this division. The ability of the players who have been brought in here and were already here, means we should be doing better regardless of whether they are new or not. In time, and the more we play together, hopefully things will start to click and we will get this club going in the right direction it deserves.”

Even the most ardent of Villa fans would surely admit that it is too late to make a push for the play-offs now, with the threat of being dragged into the relegation battle being a more realistic prospect.
And defeat on Tyneside tomorrow night would only add to their woes.
