Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has said on Sky Sports Super 6 that Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign him.

The Villa striker has said that Leeds wanted to sign him from Brentford last summer before they brought in Rodrigo from Valencia.

The 25-year-old has also said that Tottenham wanted him last summer as a back-up to star striker Harry Kane.

The striker said on Sky Sports Super 6: “There was Leeds. Leeds were interested in me, but then they signed Rodrigo. Tottenham were interested in me. They made it clear that if Harry Kane’s fit, then he is going to play.”

Watkins is a very good attacking player who has been superb for Villa this season.

The England international actually transformed his game from a winger to a striker at Brentford.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 34 Premier League matches for Villa this season.

During the 2019-20 campaign, the Englishman scored 26 goals and gave three assists in 49 Championship games for Brentford.

As reported by BBC Sport, Villa paid Brentford £28 million for Watkins last summer.

Perhaps Watkins could have done well at Leeds or Spurs.

We do not know that. What we do know now is that he has been a star at Villa this season and has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.
