Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings during the January transfer window.

According to a recent report from the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa could consider trying to sign Liverpool forward Danny Ings on loan during the January transfer window as Steve Bruce looks to give his squad the quality that will see them across the line in the Championship promotion race.

Ings has endured a frustrating time since moving from Burnley to Anfield, with injury restricting him to just a handful of first-team appearances for the Reds.

He is now back fully fit and has been scoring regularly for the under-23 side, so it is no surprise that the Mail reports that a host of Premier League teams are interested in landing the 25-year-old on loan next month.

But perhaps Ings would be forgiven for thinking that dropping down a division for half a season could be a move worth considering if Villa do indeed come calling when the window opens.

After struggling for game-time for Jurgen Klopp’s side, a move into the Championship with Villa would surely represent his best chance to enjoy regular first-team football for the rest of the campaign.

Villa’s lack of depth up front has been highlighted by Jonathan Kodjia’s recent injury and the fact that Bruce started attacking midfielder Josh Onomah up front in their most recent game – with the gamble reaping little success.

Ings would instantly become a key player for the Villans if he did arrive, and would be playing in a team that has the capabilities to produce a number of chances for their strikers and expects to win every week, so it should arguably do his confidence the world of good.

Joining a Premier League side certainly makes sense, but perhaps heading to Villa Park will give Ings the best chance to prove to his parent club that he has not lost his lethal touch in front of goal and show to Klopp that he has a lot more to give on Merseyside, while it may also give Villa the striker they need to get themselves back into the top flight.
