Aston Villa are said to be competing with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Benik Afobe.

Wolves are flying in the Championship this season, and have built up a commanding lead at the top of the table.
However, Villa have kept pace with their Midlands rivals over recent weeks, with Steve Bruce’s side’s form strong.

Villa have won nine of their last 13 league matches to climb into automatic promotion contention, and they have been having to cope without a senior striker for much of that time.
Keinan Davis has done an admirable job up-front since stepping in, but he is still a youngster learning his trade.
If Villa were to snap up Afobe though, they would have a real focal point to their attack, and a player who could do serious damage at this level.

Afobe has scored frequently in the Championship before, with Wolves, and his arrival at Villa Park may be Bruce’s side’s last chance of catching Nuno’s men.
Although Wolves are 11 points clear of Villa at this moment in time, with Afobe in their line-up, Bruce’s side would be in position to capitalise on any slip-ups.
And capturing Afobe, therefore, must be seen as a key transfer in the January window for the claret and blues.
