Aston Villa should try sign the Everton forward on loan.
Ronald Koeman learned several things from Everton’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla last week, but one of them will have been that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not ready for the senior set-up.
The 20-year-old striker is a fine talent, but the pressure is firmly on Everton to reach the Premier League’s top four this season and Koeman can’t rely on unproven players.
As a consequence, the Dutch manager should make him available for loan and Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce should be first in line to claim him.
Aston Villa only scored 47 Championship goals in 46 matches last season and it is obvious that the Villans need an additional goal threat, in addition to Jonathan Kodjia.
Josh Onomah, a winger who joined Bruce on loan this summer, is the closest that Villa have come to signing an attacking player so far.
There is plenty of room for a striker and Calvert-Lewin – whose goal gave England Under-20s a World Cup title in June – could be a perfect option.
He has a very promising future but it is too early to do a job for Everton. It’s not at Aston Villa.
