Aston Villa will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the opening game of the new Premier League season in August.
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa supporters will be hoping that their respective teams do the business this summer because it will bode well for their up and coming Premier League campaign.
Amid all the names being touted to join Villa, the newly-promoted side should aim to sign Tottenham’s powerhouse Victor Wanyama because he would be an ideal player to sit in front of Dean Smith’s backline next season.
The Kenyan international may find himself falling down the pecking order at the North London, especially if they pull off deals for £70 million-rated Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Defensive-minded Wanyama is a player of serious talent and Villa would need to do a lot in order to shift him from North London to the Midlands, but what a statement it would be if they did do that.
No European football is the biggest stumbling block for Villa, but in April, the Evening Standard claimed that Wanyama would be sold by the club if the right offer came along.
Villa should offer the right price because he would turn out to be their best signing this summer. Injuries troubled Wanyama during the recently concluded campaign, but on his day he is still one of the best defensive-minded midfielders in the country.
His ability to play in many systems, read the game well, nullify the threat of the key opposition attacker and provide brute strength to the middle of the park are just some of the things he is good at.
Added with that, he has Premier League experience to his name, and at the age of 27, he has plenty of time ahead of him in his career.
If Tottenham are willing to part ways with the underrated midfielder then Villa should not hesitate in trying to sign him because it would further prove that they mean serious business ahead of their Premier League return.
