Leicester City are reportedly ready to let the left-back leave on loan, and Aston Villa should capitalise.

With Dean Smith heading into his first transfer window as Aston Villa boss, it would be no surprise if the Villans enjoyed a busy January, especially after a summer which only seemed to kick into life in the final weeks before the deadline.
Defence is one area that Smith must surely prioritise. Despite their excellent form of late, they have conceded nine goals in their last four games. And they do not have the options that would allow them to cope with a number of injuries at the back.
Elder played a key role in helping Wigan Athletic get promoted to the second tier last season, and has previously played in the Championship, and Villa should be one of the sides that look at a potential move.

Neil Taylor is the only recognised left-back in Smith’s senior squad, and he has not always been the most popular player amongst the fans after some inconsistent form.
Elder – who was signed by Smith at Brentford – would push Taylor and would be more than capable of stepping into the side if a change was required. And at Villa, the youngster would be playing on the kind of stage that would prepare him perfectly for his return to the King Power Stadium.

Villa have so much quality within their ranks – particularly going forward – so it looks likely that more time working under Smith coupled with some shrewd signings in the window could be all it takes to put them right in the automatic-promotion mix.
Elder may not be a marquee addition at this stage of his career, but a loan for the Foxes ace could be an incredibly smart piece of business to address one area of concern within the squad.
