Newcastle United signed Ciaran Clark from Aston Villa last summer.

According to a report in the Chronicle, Ciaran Clark could be put up for sale by Newcastle United this summer.

Clark was one of Newcastle’s key players, as the North East club earned promotion to the Premier League this season.

However, Newcastle’s transfer plans could reportedly leave his place in Rafael Benitez’s team under threat.

If Eliaquim Mangala is signed by Newcastle, Clark could be put up for sale by the Magpies.

And that could give Aston Villa an opportunity to correct an error they made last summer.

Villa allowed Clark to join Newcastle in 2016, and at the time there was not an outpouring of frustration over the move.

But Clark’s performances this past campaign have proven just how valuable he could have been for Villa.

Clark was a colossus in Newcastle’s defence, and was one of their star players.

With Villa failing to settle upon a reliable centre-back pairing last term, Clark’s absence was keenly felt.

But if Mangala arrives, there may be a possibility that Steve Bruce could bring the Republic of Ireland international back to Villa Park and he should seize that opportunity, if it arises.
