Aston Villa have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer window this summer as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

There are some transfer rumours that would get supporters pretty excited, there are those that would provide the in-between feeling and there are some that fans want their club to stay clear of. The Aston Villa faithful may just be feeling the latter, at this moment in time.

The Sun have recently claimed that Villa are interested in signing Daniel Sturridge this summer after he was released by Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries for a number of years now, and during the last campaign, despite it being a successful one for Jurgen Klopp’s side, he played a bit-part role for the club.

If Villa do push through for a deal for Sturridge then it should be worrying for some of the players currently at the club. From new signing Wesley Moares to youngster Keinan Davis.

It would be worrying from the supporters perspective also because if a player like Sturridge does come in and push ahead of any of those players because forget the name on the back of his shirt, he simply hasn’t produced the goods in recent years.

Added with that, he wouldn’t suit Dean Smith’s style of football, his injury record would be a cause for concern and he is coming towards the back end of his peak years.

Villa purchased Wesley from Belgian side Club Brugge for a club-record fee last month [Guardian], Smith surely can’t allow Sturridge to play in front of a player like that, and it seems as though he won’t.

That leaves the former England man playing a role from the bench for Villa next season, which brings a player like Davis into the equation.

His development could stagnate, as he could seemingly find himself playing behind a player that scored two league goals last season and flopped at West Brom the season before that.

The problem with Sturridge potentially signing is that his name alone would push him ahead of certain players when his performances don’t match.
