Aston Villa boss Dean Smith was reportedly keen on signing Gary Cahill in the summer.

Aston Villa should make a move for Gary Cahill, with his future at Chelsea seemingly coming to an end.

Villa were linked in the Birmingham Mail with Cahill during the January transfer window, but they could not get a deal done.

However, it seems that the England international will be leaving Chelsea this summer on a free transfer.

Cahill could now present a good option for Villa, regardless of what division they are in.

Villa’s current central defensive pairing of Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings are both on loan, which means Dean Smith is going to have to recruit at the back.

And although the claret and blues do want to target younger players, Cahill could still be a wise addition.

Cahill could be the experienced member of Villa’s squad next term to guide their younger players.

And, if he is available on a free transfer, then Dean Smith’s side would be wise to make a move for the former England international.
