Leeds United are reportedly keen on Lewis Macleod.
After years of injury woes, Brentford midfielder Lewis Macleod is back – but the Bees may not have much longer to enjoy his presence at Griffin Park.
Brentford swooped to land Macleod from Rangers in January 2015, but has only managed to make 39 appearances in nearly four years having been struck down with injury after injury.
The 24-year-old’s quality has never been in doubt, and he has shown his talent this season, notching two goals to remind fans of what earned him his move to West London – his eight goals in 21 games for Rangers in the first half of the 2014-15 season.
Brentford will have been hoping to see the best of Macleod this season and beyond, but they are now left to consider a future without the Scot, as The Scottish Sun report that he has turned down a new contract.
Leeds United are thought to be keen on Macleod, with the midfielder claimed to be considering leaving the club after seeing manager Dean Smith leave the club for Aston Villa last month.
That subsequently begs the question; would Smith attempt to lure him to Villa Park? Smith thrust Macleod into his team at Brentford earlier this season, and there may just be space for him to make the move to the Midlands too.
Henri Lansbury appears to have little future with Villa, and Macleod would add another talented midfield option alongside John McGinn and Conor Hourihane, without breaking the bank thanks to his contract situation.
Smith knows everything there is to know about Macleod having worked with him for some time now, and with questions over Jack Grealish’s long-term future despite his new contract, adding a versatile midfielder on the cheap would be a smart move – and Villa should look to rival Leeds for Macleod’s signature in order to reunite him with Smith in 2019.
