Aston Villa have been linked with defender Adam Webster.
With loan stars Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe back at their parent clubs, Aston Villa need to sign a couple of centre backs this summer.
Of course, in an ideal world, Villa would be able to sign Mings and Tuanzebe permanently from Bournemouth and Manchester United respectively, but they’ll surely face difficult negotiations for the duo.
That means Villa should be looking at alternative targets, and one name in the mix is believed to be Bristol City defender Adam Webster.
The Sun claim that Villa are looking at a £12million move for Webster, after the 24-year-old starred in his first season with the Robins having joined from Ipswich Town last summer.
That £12million price may put some Villa fans off, but boss Dean Smith may have been handed the opportunity to bring the asking price down.
According to The Mirror (print edition, page 48, June 19, 2019), Bristol City are keen to sign Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, and are plotting a move to sign him this summer.
Villa must now look to offer the Robins a package for Webster, involving a reduced fee but including Hogan into the deal, offloading a player they clearly don’t want whilst bolstering Smith’s defence.
With other clubs keen on Webster too, including Hogan in a move may just give Villa the edge, whilst potentially landing him even cheaper than initially thought.
