Aston Villa have been linked with a move for David McGoldrick, with Steve Bruce keen to improve his strike force.

According to the Daily Express, Aston Villa want David McGoldrick, but he simply isn’t good enough for Steve Bruce’s side.

Villa are challenging for promotion, and they need to be thinking about the long-term – rather than the next six months.

Bruce may want a new front man, to build his team around, but McGoldrick would not offer them enough to make a worthwhile signing.

The Ipswich Town forward is now 30, and if he was to be brought to Villa, he would never be likely to become more than a covering option.

If Bruce’s side do get promoted, then McGoldrick would surely be sold – rather than used in the Premier League.

And the transfer, therefore, makes little sense for Villa to go through with this month.
