Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, and the Aston Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens seemingly have different ambitions for their respective clubs.

Since Aston Vila’s promotion to the Premier League, one thing the club and their respective owners have shown is ambition. What happens with that remains to be seen, but at least it’s positive. Unlike Newcastle’s man in charge.
Before pre-season can begin, it seems as though Mike Ashley is drowning the club back to the Championship. They have been relegated twice under his stewardship, and it’ll be a third with the way things are going.
Despite all the chaos at St James’ Park, they have some seriously talented players at their disposal from January signing Miguel Almiron to the underrated Ayoze Perez.
But Villa and their manager should pounce on the problems at Newcastle and try to sign defensive powerhouse Jamaal Lascelles, who would be a brilliant addition to Villa’s backline.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed two stunning seasons under the soon-to-be-departing Rafa Benitez and he has been one of the reasons as to why the Magpies are still a Premier League club.
His calmness at the back, and his leadership qualities, brings the best out of the individuals around him and the team as a whole. He could even argue that he has been pretty unlucky not to receive an England call during these past 18 months.

Either way, given the mess up North, Villa should look at some of Newcastle’s best talents and try to nab them because it wouldn’t be a surprise if they would want to depart the club along with their manager, who will officially leave at midnight on Sunday.
Villa are in need of new defensive options, and whilst names such as Adam Webster and Ben Gibson get a mention, a player like Lascelles is a much better option. Plus his experience will be valuable to the newly-promoted side.
Newcastle fans won’t like losing their key players ahead of the new Premier League season, especially with Benitez out of the door, but there is uncertainty in the North East and Villa should take advantage of it for their own benefit.
