Aston Villa are keen on Sergio Gomez as they consider a move to beat Everton in the race for the Anderlecht left back this summer.

Villa’s season petered out in the end and Steven Gerrard will want to be playing for something next season.

That’s why Villa have been so quick to make their mark in the transfer market and already have three signings done and dusted.

Philippe Coutinho has joined permanently whilst Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos have also agreed to join.

Gerrard won’t be done there though and will be desperate to add more new faces over the coming weeks and months.

Aston Villa are keen on Sergio Gomez

The Athletic report that Villa are looking towards a number of signings and one target is Anderlecht talent Sergio Gomez.

It’s claimed that Gomez is on the Villa radar as he is a cheaper alternative to Rangers ace Calvin Bassey.

Whilst Bassey can play as a centre back, Gomez is a very attack-minded left back.

The Spaniard was in the Barcelona ranks as an attacking midfielder and his potential resulted in Borussia Dortmund signing him in 2018.

Gomez couldn’t break through in Germany though and joined Anderlecht on a permanent basis last summer.

Now converted to a left back, Gomez enjoyed a stunning season by racking up seven goals and a ridiculous 15 assists.

Villa now seemingly fancy signing Gomez as competition for Lucas Digne at left back in what would be a very ironic move.

The Athletic also claim that Everton fancy signing Gomez to bolster their own left back options moving into next season.

Everton sold Lucas Digne to Villa in January and would seemingly like to sign Gomez as competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Yet Gomez could now end up competing alongside Digne at Villa instead with Gerrard’s men proving to be a thorn in Everton’s side when it comes to left backs.
